Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I believe every child can learn if we challenge, guide and provide the tools needed. By the end of the year, all children will improve their literacy skills, science, and mathematical skills. My students will be more active, have healthier lives and learn about tolerance among them and our school community, which will aid them in being more successful in second grade. The challenge comes with the lack of materials and all the budget cuts.
We have a high number of free or reduced-price lunch students in our school and district.
Our classroom is an all-inclusive model, where all children learn together. Because of the bad economy, some of our students are homeless at times. They are immigrant English learners from Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America, and Spanish learners from the community around the school. My children are so eager to learn new things. Our wonderful staff in our community school continues to learn and implement new ways to teach our students and strives to help everyone succeed.
My Project
I have requested Spanish Syllable Puzzles, Spanish Syllable Slide And Learns, Make-A-Word Soft Touch, Magnetic Syllable Tile Kit and Spanish Syllable Bridge Game to use during literacy stations to help students develop early literacy skills, word fluency and phonic awareness skills. The Empezando A Escribir Serie, My Spanish Word Wall, and Spanish Magnetic High-Frequency will help my students become better writers in Spanish. It will be a wonderful experience to have more hands-on materials available for students to use in my classroom in Spanish language.
The literacy materials will help students develop phonemic awareness, reading fluency, writing skills needed in first grade.
My students will be better prepared with the reading and writing basic skills to continue learning Spanish in second grade.
