Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very ambitious children; they love to be challenged and are very studious. Despite some of their socioeconomic statuses, they put their education first and strive to become the best they can be. My students are readers and writers at heart, and this is why I am creating this DonorsChoose.org project to empower and continue to mold them into the literate individuals they are growing to be.

My students live in the heart of Los Angeles, a very diverse and multi-ethnic city in CA.

As a result, they encounter economic hardships and trauma. About a third of my students live in homeless shelters; others live with more than ten members in a single home apartment complex. As a result, not all of my students can financially afford the necessary and demanding resources to excel in school or in their educational careers.

With your help and support, my students will have access to a more adventurous and fun readers' and writers' process.

My Project

The books that I selected are to empower my students to receive cultural pride as they continue to explore their culture and identity as part of the Latinx community. My students are enrolled in a Spanish-English dual language program and are in need of Spanish books. These books are not only inviting them to learn where their "roots" are from, but will allow them to learn how to be tolerant and agents of social justice. These books will allow the transference of skills to go from one language unto another.
