it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Inspiring children to read can be challenging without the right materials. Our students need rich literature full of language to inspire them to become independent readers.
This is our second year as a Spanish dual language school.
We have a first grade and kindergarten class in the dual language program. We also have a regular middle school program that will eventually be fazed out as the dual immersion program reaches the middle school level. We are an inner city school in Oakland serving students from diverse backgrounds and needs.
My Project
I am asking for books that will be used for read-alouds, guided reading, independent reading, listening centers and literature circles. The listening center will give students an opportunity to hear other models of the Spanish language during independent center time. The read-alouds will be used to teach vocabulary and reading strategies. The emergent reader books will be essential to our program in that students will have books that are at their level for guided and independent reading.
This project is essential to the success of our program.
These books will be used continuously for years to come to teach important literacy skills. They will be used to inspire, cultivate language and teach children the love of literature and reading!
