Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are diving into books of choice in our reading workshop model. Our students have a wide range of reading needs and this model helps meet individual needs and languages. Our school needs large, rich, diverse classroom libraries with books our students can access, that meet their needs, and are interesting and engaging.
We believe that every child is a reader.
If we can get the right book in the right child's hands at the right time, we know we can create life-long readers.
My Project
Our Dual Language Program offers students choice independent reading and writing in both Spanish and English. Students in these classes need access to high interest Spanish and English texts at a wide range of reading levels. Classrooms libraries need to be diverse and represent our student's’ cultures, interests and backgrounds. By providing students with a wide range of texts to choose from, teachers can ensure that all students are appropriately matched to books that meet their interest and reading levels. Many Spanish texts are not written authentically in Spanish, but instead translated. This list includes texts written in Spanish and English and represent quality texts. Having greater access to these quality texts will support the growth of lifelong readers and writers!
