This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from various backgrounds and are from low income families. My Spanish Club class serves students with a desire to learn about the Spanish culture and language. As an educator, I want to be able to provide them with a learning experience that entices them to learn more about the culture and language.

I would like to create different arts and craft projects that would help students learn more about the culture.

I would need some supplies like markers, crayons, and paint, for students to use to create their projects.

My Project

My Spanish Club students have been reading The House on Mango Street, and I would love for them to paint their own neighborhood. This project would help them understand the book better and also learn more about their culture and what they experience.

The paint supplies (canvas, paint, and brushes) would allow them to express their understanding of the book through their artwork.

Instead of them writing about the book, I want them to create a piece that would entail what they understand and also allow them to make a connection to their own world. When students make connections to the books that they read, they are able to understand things about culture a lot better.
