My Project
Help my students gain a cultural appreciation and understanding of Spanish culture by engaging with cultural traditions like Day of the Dead. These materials to make masks in celebration of the Mexican holiday encourages students to appreciate and respect diverse cultures.
By actively participating in the creation of masks, students develop empathy and understanding for customs and beliefs different from their own.
Engaging in hands-on activities like making masks provides opportunities for language practice. Students can learn and reinforce vocabulary related to colors, shapes, facial features, and materials used in crafting, all while speaking and listening in Spanish. Overall, making Day of the Dead masks in Spanish class can enrich student learning by providing a meaningful, hands-on experience that integrates language, culture, art, and creativity. It offers a holistic approach to language acquisition while fostering cultural awareness and appreciation.
