Help me give my students supplies for cooking projects in Spanish class. We'll learn about the culture of new dishes, vocab for cooking, and enjoy tasting the delicious results.
I am excited to share our upcoming project where each month, students will explore a new dish from the Spanish-speaking world.
We will delve into the geography of the country the dish originates from and discuss its cultural significance, including the occasions on which it is typically prepared.
After learning about the background, students will work together to prepare the dish in class, enhancing their cooking vocabulary along the way.
To foster a positive classroom culture, we’ll enjoy the dishes together and share our opinions in Spanish. I plan to introduce a friendly competition, where students can "judge" the best dishes prepared in class. This experience will not only be fun but will also encourage community building.
Additionally, we will engage in important conversations about food cultivation and the historical and current stories of migrant farm workers. We will explore themes related to Cesar Chávez, read a children’s book in Spanish, and watch a short film titled "Campesino" to highlight the efforts of Las Familias Unidas por la Justicia in our County.
