Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are an energetic and diverse group of first graders who are eager to learn every day. Their diversity refers to their ethnic backgrounds and languages. I have students from various languages, such as Somali, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Amharic, Dari, Pashto, French, and Greek. Half of my students are ELL (English Language Learners). I teach in the Dual Language program, which consist of teaching content in Spanish and English. I teach on the Spanish side of the program. This means that my students are learning a third or fourth language.
In addition, the school I teach at is considered a Title I school, which means that most of our families come from a low economic background.
Therefore, 90% of our students are in the free and reduced lunch program and resources are not expected to be provided by their families.
The various backgrounds of students bring an amazing blend of culture to the classroom, but there are also challenges in providing them all the tools so they can succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. But I hope that with your help I can continue in supporting their learning. Thank you for your kind donations.
My Project
Hello, while we are teaching in a distance learning setting. I have noticed the high impact that books have to a child's life. A read aloud from a teacher, parent, or a student reading enriches their learning and imagination. Through my distance learning experience the most successful lessons and moments have been as students listen to a story. Their eyes open up and their reactions are priceless.
Next year, I have the wonderful opportunity to move up with my students to second grade and I want to provide my students with the tools to succeed and meet their goals as we go back to the classroom.
I want to provide the resources to succeed in their learning. As a second year teacher, it will mean that I have to restart my library. I teach in Spanish and there are not many books that are accessible. I would love for my students to have books they enjoy and they can learn from available to them when they go back to the classroom. Even if we continue learning virtually, they will benefit from the read alouds and I will be sharing the books virtually. Thank you.
