Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in a Spanish and English Dual Language Program in the South Bronx. Most of my students come from a low socioeconomic backgrounds and are benefiting from our Dual Language Program at Samara Community School. My students get the opportunity to learn English and Spanish in a safe and nurturing environment. Students are engaged in extracurricular activities such as Art, Music, Capoeira, and Swimming. Students get the opportunity to explore different local places in our Community through our Project Based Approach.

My students are energetic, inquisitive, curious Kindergarteners who are just eager to learn and explore what our Dual Language Classroom has in store for them.

My Project

My students will greatly benefit of having Spanish books built into our Classroom Library. We often struggle to find authentic books in Spanish to support our diverse community of multilingual students.

Having a variety of Spanish books built in our classroom library will help all my Spanish learners fall in love with Spanish literature and culture.

It is very important for me as a Kindergarten teacher to inspire my Kindergartners to read and open their world of imagination through books as they learn a new language!

In addition, many families in my school community are Spanish speaking families who love to support their children at school. This will allow them to actively participate as they read these books in their native language to their children at home.
