My students need a bilingual classroom library, in order to engage them as bilingual scholars. The items that I selected are meant to promote their bilingual literacy.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In this upcoming year, I will have the opportunity to realize my dream of being an educator by beginning my first year teaching! I will have the pleasure of teaching to 25-30 students in a fifth grade bilingual classroom in the vibrant community of East Los Angeles. I will have the opportunity to serve a dominant Latino immigrant community. Serving a socioeconomic disadvantaged population, our school primarily serves to English Learners and first generation students.
Moreover, I hope to provide the learning community which continues to nurture their growth as bilingual scholars.
It is essential for me as an educator to provide the learning environment which reflects them and their experiences, specifically in literature. In having a bilingual and diverse selection of books, I hope that they continue to grow as bilingual scholars. I am elated to guide my students into a successful educational experience!
My Project
As a first year teacher in a dual language elementary school, it has been very challenging obtaining Spanish language books for our classroom library. This selection of books will further enhance both their interest and ability to read fluently in both languages. My students will use these books throughout the academic year during reading instruction. Students will be able to explore the various literary genres which they may not have been exposed to previously.
Your generous donation will improve our fifth grade bilingual library, which will reflect their interests, experiences, and culture.
This will change my students' lives for the better because they will love literature, feel empowered in their abilities, and love learning!
