This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year brings about a new change for myself, a new school and new grade level! I will be teaching a homeroom of 25 5th graders who come from a variety of backgrounds and have a variety of experiences. We will work together to grow a strong classroom community that will better us all!

The school itself sits in a neighborhood that is considered historic and is home to many ESL families.

Our school is a Title I community that desires to serve and grow our students.

My Project

Imagine not being someone who is strong or fluent in English, but wants to become a better reader, or already having a love of reading. It is my desire to bring books in my students' native language to their hands. I want to fill my bookshelves with these books from day one, so that my students can see they are important to me!

I want to bring in beloved classics like the Ramona series, book sets allowing students to get to know famous inventors and creators, and books where they have a chance to see themselves as characters.

These books will open students eyes, allow for a passion of reading to develop, and will grow them as readers.
