Our school has a large special education population and is a good model of inclusion. We also are rich in different cultures on our campus and in our classroom. The school community is low-income, Title I. Our class consists of 1st-2nd grade students with special needs, multiple disabilities, including vision and hearing impairments, Down Syndrome and Autism.
Most of our students are nonverbal and need direct one-on-one assistance at all times.
We would love to give our classroom more. Our programs are always in need of new things to motivate student learning.
My Project
This project is for bean bag foam filling to fluff our bean bag chairs, which have become nearly flat from frequent use over the years. Bean bag chairs are used in multiple ways all throughout our school day: For students recuperating from seizures, stretching between activities, resting when not feeling well, or just for comfort during recreational time. We decided that it would be most responsible to fill the bean bags chairs we already have, rather than to get new ones at this time. They are durable and easy to wipe clean, and will be good as new, once refilled. Thank you for caring for the special needs of our students.
More than half of students from low‑income households
