Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school was established in 1928 and has been serving a small community for many generations. It is my 24th year teaching, and I had an awesome experience of teaching my former student's daughter in my class a few years ago. My current aide is also my former kindergarten student.
My school is a Title I school, where a lot of my students qualify for the reduced price or free lunch program.
Many students come from diverse cultural backgrounds. There are 16 different languages spoken at my school. Most are English Language Learners, speaking English as their second language.
It's exciting to teach students who are able to do so much on their own - collaborating, researching and working independently to be innovators!
My Project
In my classroom, I have 6 big tables that sit 4 students each. When we return from our COVID-19 pandemic, I’m not sure how to space out my students using the tables I have. It will be very challenging to keep them apart when they share the same tables.
If I can get a few of these small individual tables, I think it would be very helpful to keep my students at a safe distance.
Students will be able to do their work without having to sit so close to each other sharing their germs.
