My Students
I teach first grade in the inner city of one of Chicago's most challenging neighborhoods on the south side. I currently have twenty first graders, I also teach an after school program to first and second grade girls called Sistas of STEM, and an after school program "Number Ninjas" for primary grade students. Both programs were developed by me!
Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus quarantine, I will not be able to start our hands on class gardening activities for our last Science Unit of the year.
My Project
This is our last quarter of school. Next week, I will be beginning our last mini unit on Plants & Seeds during remote lessons online. If we were at school we would be planting seeds in the classroom as well as our Campus Playground.
The terrariums will give a students a chance to be creative and design their own small garden in a jar to care for at home.
Students will plant seeds and decorate/design the terrariums. Students will water their own seeds and chart the growth of the seeds over the summer. The terrariums are also equipped with a night light that students can use when it gets dark outside.
