South Elementary Superstars All Aboard the Letterland Express
Help me give my students transportation to Blowing Rock NC, to Tweetsie Railroad so they can attend LetterLand and Friends. We would love for our students to meet all the characters that they learn about all year long.
Our students are Kindergartners, who are eager to learn boys and girls.
They come from a culturally diverse community and attend a Title 1 school. Many of our students never get to explore new places. Many of them come to school with little to no exposure to anything outside of their small community. Their experiences come mainly from books, the internet or television. Many of our Kindergarten students lack experience and basic skills; learning the alphabet is made fun through LetterLand and Friends.

Our Project
Each morning, our students hop on board the Letterland Express train.
They take an imaginary ride to a fictional Letterland where letters and sounds come to life. We meet characters like Annie Apple, Clever Cat, and Eddy Elephant.
Bringing these characters to life helps our students apply their phonics knowledge to their reading in order to become proficient readers and writers.
Each year, a local mountain amusement park transforms their park into Letterland. All of the characters come to life and are there to meet the student. Then we get to take a ride on a real coal-powered train, known as the Letterland Express.
