I am a third grade teacher in the South Bronx. My students are on the testing grade and are drilled continuously. (mandated) They are losing their motivation to learn. My students are not properly supplied with educational resources as well as incentives to motivate them to learn. Our science and history books are often shared between classes, we have one computer that works when it wants to, there is no consistency in the classroom due to our lack of art supplies such as Journals, baskets, and supportive material. They also are in need of a comfortable environment that aids in the facilitation of balanced literacy. This then, in turn leaves my students as well as classroom disorganized. My project will be to implement educational programs using computers, basic classroom supplies, and incentives. Incentives can range from free pizza, tickets, jersey, anything that kids like! I am willing to teach this children to the best of my ability, but without some support they not be at their best.Scholastic makes a literary magazine that will help students feel like they are getting a break and learn at the same time. Anything that is supportive for these children who are often left to organize themselves due to single-parent, foster, and unstable homes.
