This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students face huge challenges. We are in the poorest congressional district in the USA in the South Bronx. Yet, our students still thrive here! They are predominately from low income households and most receive help from the government. We are in a high crime area. Still, our students are dedicated, show up, and are ready to learn. We far exceed the city's graduation rate! This is how much grit and desire our students have to be the best they can be.

My Project

We are trying not to preach to our students but have them teach each other on hurdles they face in the South Bronx. With the use of an iPad, students can tap into their own personal stresses and issues and share in their own creative ways. We want to have our students do projects on Drug Free, bullying, gender issues and being kind. They will work in groups using the iPad Pro and create artwork, and videos and songs to share with this cohort and cohorts to follow. Also with the use of the iPad pencil, students can share and It is our hope that having them come up with the material, the students will more likely listen to the messages on these huge hurdles and issues they face and provide solutions and skills for them to apply in there life.
