I am a 29 year old teacher of a class of 29 bright, amazing, and lovable second grade students. I work in a very impoverished area of the South Bronx. I receive very little help and support from my school. I am left on my own to purchase whatever it is that my kids need to learn and prosper. I buy as much as I can with my own money, but that only goes so far. What we tend to take for granted, like owning a simple book, is GREATLY appreciated and cherished by my kids. I have been teaching at my school for 7 years now. I have been in the same room and have had the exact same library books since I began teaching. I am constantly purchasing books on my own, but the cost really adds up. Most of the books in my library are torn, worn, and faded. My children still love and cherish them, but I'd LOVE to be able to give my class the opportunity to have brand new library books. I wanted to also give my children a chance to have input as to what books we receive. They have chosen about 40 books, ranging in topics from poetry to astronomy. These books will be put to great use and will greatly aid in the learning of 29 amazing second graders! Thank you.
