This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In our class we use a Smart board and sit in groups. However, the students all have individualized math needs and pacing issues. This is hard to overcome without some technology. My biggest challenge is the lack of technology to help groups and meet them where they are at so they stay engaged.

They get free housing and free lunch.

The majority come from broken homes. They are terrific students. Our school is like a family to them. The kids are from the inner city and need support to overcome obstacles in their lives. We are in the Bronx. But are school is like a shining light for these students.

My Project

Weekly students have an assessment to see where they are at. With the iPad, I can group students based on the data. They would be sitting in groups working together. They would watch tutorials, Khan Academy, and student led videos. They then would be able to use the iPad again to take a short assessment to see if they achieved mastery. After, they would create their own video to share with future classes.

The use of the iPad will help me meet students' needs where they are at.

It will show how much we care and improve their learning. There academics will improve and level of engagement because they will work on the math topics they truly need help in. Also, in groups they will be forced to learn the social skills they most need.
