This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students face huge challenges. We are in the poorest congressional district in the USA in the South Bronx. Yet, our students still thrive here! They are predominately from low income households and most receive help from the government. We are in a high crime area. Still, our students are dedicated, show up, and are ready to learn. We far exceed the city's graduation rate! This is how much grit and desire our students have to be the best they can be.

My Project

So many great students are removed from classrooms when they simply have coping skills they have not mastered or an outlet for their energy. Our students love to draw and listen to music to calm them. Some simply need this with the traumas in their lives.

Giving students a way to use there energy in a productive way will keep them in the classroom.

With the use of Boogie boards, students who need different ways to express themselves can produce work.

Students can take notes differently and can release tension drawing on tables versus distracting students or writing on the desks. Students will also use headphones and tablets.

With the use of these products, students will learn to self regulate themselves and stay in the class and become successful.
