Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The Theatre Company is an extracurricular activity that meets after school. The company produces two shows a year.
The scholars in this program get a hands-on experience producing a show; from acting to stage management to crew.
Members go through the full production process from auditions to rehearsals to shows. Scholars have access to more theatrical tools and more rigorous exercises, along with more hands-on exposure to all aspects of the crew that cannot be achieved in a classroom setting. Scholars are able to create bonds with members of different grades, which allows for personal growth and a more diverse ”think tank” of creative ideas.
Being involved in theatre can have profound effects on how a scholar conducts himself/herself. It has been wonderful to see the scholars who participated in theatre this year gain confidence. They are more open to trying new things, more empathetic towards others, able to think more creatively, and better able to express themselves.
My Project
Sound and music are one of the best ways for scholars to express themselves. Having adequate equipment is essential to teach scholars a new way to express themselves. The art of sound design and mixing is one that can only be mastered with hands-on experience and proper equipment.
Currently, our school has a sound system that does not help the theatre company or our school, master this art.
The equipment is bulky, out of date and the parts are not easily replaced. The addition of the new powered speakers gives the flexibility to teach scholars about sound inside the classroom, as well as, after school during Crew Calls for our prospective school sound technicians. The speakers I have chosen can be easily moved around and configured for the needs of the school and have plenty of power to add that important oomph to the soundscape created for our theatrical productions.
My technicians are already learning theatrical standards. Let's give them the best possible equipment to further their learning.
