When my students were in the fourth grade their schools were shut down due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. For a majority of my students, the pandemic affected their fifth and sixth grade education because they were learning remotely or in a reduced capacity. Because of these dramatic shutdowns, my students lost valuable opportunities to gain essential skills needed to be as proficient in their math and science skills. In addition, the shutdowns of schools caused them to develop social and emotional consequences that have impacted some of their potential for learning in person. Many of my students spent more than two school years learning remotely or in a hybrid environment. During those formative years, they lost the opportunity that allowed them their full potential to develop healthy relationships In addition, the loss of learning caused many of my students to fall behind in their basic skills needed to be proficient in the grade level for math and science that they currently enrolled in. Middle school math standards are progressive, so when students miss out on instructional time they lose out on building their knowledge and capacity to learn like they should. These headphones and snacks will help students focus more on their instruction and supportive learning to be able to grow. By having quality headphones my students will be able to listen better and focus to instruction when it is presented audibly. In addition, many of my students struggle with focusing because they are hungry before lunch time and are of an income status that doesn’t always allow them to bring a snack. Overall, having the necessary tools and resources will help my kids tremendously in reaching their learning goals to be ready for high school next year.
