Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We have great kids at our school. Our student population is 70% English language learners. Many are just learning to speak English. We are a high poverty school and most students do not have books at their homes.

We are a group of 1st grade teachers who need book sets to teach our kids to read. We don't have multiple copies of books so that our students can have their own copy of the book as we are reading together. The books we have now are too difficult and discouraging for them in their beginning attempts to learn to read. We have a few sets of books to teach them with but we don't have enough books in many levels. We needs book sets to help our students become successful readers.

These books would go right into the hands of our students at a small reading table. The teacher will help them point and learn the words in the book. They will feel comfortable because it would be a book they could read. They will borrow the book in a book bag that night, read it successfully to their parents, and return it.

These books will be used for years and would teach our great students to love to read.
