Sorting Tools for Autistic Students

My Project

I teach technology to students in grades 1-5. My school includes students with autism who love tech classes too! I am always looking for activities that make technology standards accessible to all.

Sorting is an important early STEM activity that introduces concepts needed to understand coding and engineering.

Playing sorting games as a child provides a good foundation for classifying items by certain characteristics and improving logical thinking which are prerequisites to more advanced technology skills. I have selected a variety of engaging sorting activities that students can do both independently and with a caregiver, depending on their developmental level. I cannot wait to see my students' faces light up when they see these new tools that are perfect for their abilities!
