Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Sort, Glue, Cut,and Paste Please" would be the one request my students have about my teaching. They love these types of hands-on exploring and learning. Who doesn't, especially in second grade?
As a teacher I too often catch myself relying on worksheets or books, which can be great but I know I need more of a balance.
My students each have strengths in the various learning modalities. Plus, they all need practice cutting and gluing as more art activities have been cut.
My Project
I hope to provide more hands-on opportunities into our morning language arts routine. The box of reading comprehension activities comes with a variety of multi-leveled ideas that can push my students to a higher level of critical thinking. The activities include directions on how to create a "cause and effect creature" that identifies these skills in a passage but puts them together in a creative way. This specific box has activities that cover the vast skills required for second grade specifically. I am also excited for the potential that these kits offer that students can work independently, collectively, or even take them home to do. While, the ready to go sorting charts I am requesting are already packaged into mini carrying cases, and help to address concepts like plurals and compound words. The students can borrow these materials, move around the room, and push themselves to master these skills with self regulation. There is so much potential awaiting my students.
I can only hope you feel the way I do.
When I remember being in elementary school there was so much more of a balance of skills in the classroom. I am looking to infuse my classroom with some new ways to learn the necessary second grade skills, won't you join me?
