Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are Sophomores who are in a full Special Education Resource Classroom. Their Special Needs range from Dyslexia, Learning Disabilities, Visual Disabilities to Emotional and Behavioral Needs. I want a classroom that is inviting, comfortable, welcoming and full of inspirations. My students' learning styles range from tactile, kinesthetic, auditory, and visual. These students come from many backgrounds, including ESL learners. The environment of a classroom is everything for a students learning. I want safety, flexible seating, group seating, and auditory
technology stations for my students.
Technology! Technology is the key to a 21st-century classroom. So many elementary schools have iPads, Chromebooks, etc., for each of their students. In high school, we do not. We do have access to Chromebooks, but they are often shared among many teachers and students. Many of my students do not have internet at home, thus relying on the school to introduce them to learning online. My sophomores are going to be thrown out into society in just three years, and I want them to be prepared. I want them to know how to type, edit papers online, upload papers, answer surveys online, and fill out applications for jobs online.
My Project
I am thrilled to begin working at CHS. My classroom is over 50 years old and needs a little zing to freshen it up. A few soft cushions and pads for chairs can make a huge difference for my students. In the corporate world, CEOs and CFOs all have nice leather cushion chairs. Why can't we?
I want to supply each of my students with pens, notebooks, and highlighters for our days of writing and editing, too.
Many of my students come empty-handed, and these supplies will help!
The organization of the room through bookshelves and neatness of the classroom will also keep my students focused. Through my years of teaching, I have seen what an environment can do for student learning. Through this change of furniture placement, new supplies, and some calming decor, the classroom will turn into a place my students will feel welcome and excited about learning. Adding a few Chromebooks for the students will make their day! They will be excited to sit working independently, getting text read to them on their Chromebooks, and sitting comfortably while working.
