This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Calming play is an integral part of any child’s development along with being able to help them regulate their emotions. Having a space where students can explore different sensations when they are having a challenging moment is particularly helpful. This light table will be used as a space not only as a place to encourage cooperative play between peers but also as a place to take a break and teach children to be present in the sensations that they will experience using this light table.
Having a space for students to explore different items that can give a variety of sensations, will help them regulate their emotions to be in the present moment.
With your support, I am hoping to supply my students with a cozy space to help them take a moment for themselves and engage in positive self-discovery. I know that this light table will also help them have some agency in choosing which sensory items they want to try along with the color of the lights.
