Soothe the Senses

My Students

The students in our school arrive with various degrees of education and backgrounds. More than 90% of students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch. Many students come from other countries and enter the classroom for the first time. They have experienced trauma and stress on a regular basis.

I spend much of my own money making sure the kids have what they need to be successful.

The families have a challenging time providing their children with school supplies needed for the classroom. The children come to school, every day, excited to learn as much as they can. We expose the students to music through orchestra, band and general music, as a school focus. I am blessed to be able to teach in this wonderful school.

My Project

I am asking for light covers for my classroom. I have researched lighting and how it effects learning in the classroom. The fluorescent lighting used in most classrooms can lead to a host of difficulties for children and adults, including migraines. My hope is that by diffusing these harsh lights with light covers it will help the children focus and learn. Our school library added them a few years ago and it has made the space much cozier and more comfortable. I am also slowly adding more lamps and other type of lighting into my classroom. I am hoping it will create a calm and welcoming environment.
