The middle school students in my classes are awesome artists and storytellers! They are diverse, creative, motivated, and inspiring. Our classroom environment encourages collaboration and provides choices for students designed to empower every kind of learner. Students set their own goals and learn to have a growth mindset.
Students who choose to be in my class are interested in learning how to use technology to express their own narratives.
They are excited about becoming excellent storytellers with the skills to use amazing digital tools to create art and animation.
Digital Media Arts is popular amongst our 7th and 8th grade girls. They are often our best storytellers and artists. The class provides opportunities for many girls (and anyone else who is not interested in robotics, engineering, or website design) to learn to code within a subject of high interest to them. Many of our students will be the part of the new coding workforce.
My Project
This is a great project because we are teaching the next generation of great filmmakers how to use digital tools, in conjunction with art and animation, to tell their stories.
Students need a way to draw digitally in order to become the next great Pixar, DreamWorks, or Illumination Entertainment filmmakers.
Our class succeeded in getting Adobe Creative Cloud to help bring our stories to life, but students have been responsible for providing their own graphics pads. Many students cannot afford them.
If you want to see an artist rip out their own hair in frustration, give them a computer mouse and ask them to draw quickly and accurately. These graphics pads are precise, user friendly, and the best (for a reasonable price) on the market. The students will use the pads to draw in a variety of ways. The pad offers students the ability to use free hand drawing, with a variety of tools to help create digital art and animation.
The pads will be used by 116 7th and 8th grade students in my Digital Media Arts and core classes.
