This year, I am starting at a new school that is grades K-8. Coming from an exclusively 6-8 school, I don't have many materials for the younger students. My goal for students grades K-2 is to foster a love of music that is rooted in folk songs and stories. My students will learn through play, creativity, and literacy.
My students will greatly benefit from the songtales books.
Music class helps strengthen literacy skills in students. I am excited to be teaching a new group of students who will be eager to listen and sing along to these stories. Eventually, they will be the ones leading the songtales.
My Project
Music is a great way to teach a wide variety of subjects. Specifically to this project, music helps teach students literacy skills. K-2 music classes end with a song tale. A songtale is exactly what it sounds like- a story set to music. These beautifully designed books (illustrations are all by different college illustration majors!) provide students with a magical experience to boost their literacy skills.
Today, literacy skills are more important than ever.
The ability to read is required in virtually every job. These books will support what the students are learning in their other classes, as well as support students who are learning English for the first time.
