My students attend a small, public charter school which has only been operational for 10 years. This year the students are excited to begin a new chorus/drama department, which will allow them to grow using music/chorus and drama/theatre arts as one of their elective classes.
We are starting from scratch.
The students are high schoolers who love to sing and are involved in many activities in their school and community including student government, service clubs , ROTC and local churches and synagogues. The students' voices sound wonderful and they have already booked several performances within the community for the year. They are participating in several fundraisers and are excited to have the opportunity to sing and act. The students, many who have never sung before, make up our chorus and are find their voices in music.
The students are motivated and many will continue to flourish by attending colleges to further their musical talents.
My Project
I chose microphones to begin fulfilling the list of equipment needed for the project. This begins the list with the basics. Microphones are for stage performances and class participation. All students love to sing in a microphone.
Students need quality microphones for their voices to carry, whether performing in the classroom, or a performance hall.
The ability to start from the ground up and build a program is something the students will always remember with pride, even when they have graduated.
This will be a dream come true for many of them and will allow them to continue performing each subsequent year before graduation.
