I teach 150 middle schoolers (that’s 7th and 8th graders, in my building) per semester who have chosen to take technology as an elective. My experience with them has taught me that they think they are "too cool for school" and usually have to be coerced into learning. Once their interest is piqued, they never cease to amaze me with their ability to learn. They are digital natives and can usually teach me a thing or two.
My students want their education to be relevant and mirror real-life experiences.
I want to give them the opportunity to shine. Together, we are a most excellent team.
Many of my technology students are also members of our band. They are passionate about music and technology! I want to offer them the opportunity to straddle both worlds by providing these Sphero Specdrum rings. These app-enabled rings will allow them to learn coding skills, compose music, and use the newest classroom technology to experience two things they love!
According to the Sphero website, "All skill levels, from curious-minded kids to seasoned musicians, can create their own masterpieces with hundreds of instruments, drum kits, and other sounds." These little rings will allow my musicians to share their expertise with their classmates and give all of my students a chance to experience the color-coded programming with sounds.
