Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a middle school on the northwest side of Chicago. The students here are 93.5% Hispanic and 95% are considered low income. We also serve a population that has 27% limited English proficiency.
After 20 years of general education, I am now working with diverse learners.
These students are so anxious to learn, but I don't have the materials I need to meet them at their levels. We're also returning from the pandemic and I want to bring more fun and socialization back into the classroom.
My Project
I noticed recently how excited the students are to engage in off screen fun activities in groups. They have missed the interaction and socialization these past two years. Having a chance to play games with each other during recess or cancelled classes will bring back some of the fun of being in school. They need to rebuild some their social and group work skills in a safe and fun environment. I have a few games but not enough to keep all of them engaged and entertained. These new games will bring a lot of smiles to a lot of faces.
