My Students

First Grade students are awesome! They are full of wonder and curiosity and just love to learn! My students come from a very close knit, small community, in a rural town of upstate New York. Our school serves students in grades Pre-K through 6th grade. Parents, students, and teachers share a great sense of family in our school because everyone loves it!! Not only do my students learn through academics but they also learn through playing and cooperating. I love providing a fun learning environment for my first grade students to keep them excited about school!

My Project

The Teachers Pay Teachers money will be used to purchase activities that have to do with money. We will be teaching the students about finances. Each day students will come in and try to earn paw tickets for good behavior and doing the right thing. With these tickets they will trade them in for plastic coins (pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters). They will take their plastic money and use it to buy a small dog from the pound. Once they have their dog they will be able to earn more tickets and coins to get items for their dog and themsleves.

The coins will have to be counted to come up with the right amount to purchase some paw-riffic items.

The paw bracelets will be used for dog collars for the dogs, they can purchase a balloon to celebrate their dogs birthday, paw stickers can be put on a notebook, paw pencils can be used for doing daily assignments, and the dog clock will be used to tell time to the hour and half hour. All of our clocks got taken out and replaced with digital clocks. With the coins, students will be learning how to save their money in their dog dish (which they have)and add coins in order to purchase the items they would like for their dog or themselves. Students will learn to identify coins, the value of the different coins, and how to combine the coins to make the amount they need to purchase their items from the paw box. The kids are super excited with our dog theme this year.
