Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Books are the foundation of education. We all know this. It is a sad fact that students in America do not have adequate access to them. The more exposure children have to quality literature, the richer their lives will be. This is obvious. Your help will be an invaluable gift.
I am a first grade teacher in California.
Approximately 60 percent of the students at our school are African-American, about 30 percent are Latino, and the remaining 10 percent are a mix of Pakistani, Ethiopian, Anglo-American, and others. The vast majority of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. I always have many talented children in my classes, and I am always looking to expand the educational program I deliver.
My Project
I am strong believer in the public education - perhaps you are too. The reality, however, is that public schools are typically not organized well enough to give students the materials they need. Children should be read at least one book a day - don't you think? At least. In our school district there are 180 instructional days. The books I have received (over ten years) from the district for use in my classroom amount to only a small fraction of what is needed.
Each title in this selection of books is outstanding.
All are books that our children ought to have access to. Give these children the gift of reading! Your generosity will be greatly appreciated. Rest assured: this donation will make a real difference.
