On the cusp of qualifying as a teenager, my sixth grade students walk to the beat of their own drum. Each individual is working on developing their personality and deciding who they are going to be when they are older. Their future is a cacophony of melodies that they have yet to understand.
Yet through all this confusion, they can come into my classroom and know that they are valued, loved and part of my family.
From the moment they enter through my portable door, they know they belong and will be accepted for who they are and what they bring to the table as long as they never stop trying. Albert Einstein said, "You never fail until you stop trying." These kids never give up! They inspire me to find my best self and to keep trying every day.
My Project
Some students enjoy listening while some prefer to follow along. While I already have many copies of these books available in my classroom, I don't yet have the auditory book for the students to listen to as they read along.
Reading along should be an immersion experience and listening to the book on tape helps the students to understand what they are reading.
By following along in the book while listening to the book being read to them, students get to experience the complete immersive experience.
The Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is a particularly dramatic read-aloud that students automatically enjoy.
