My Students

Learning a foreign language opens the minds of students to new experiences, cultures and perspectives. This happens every day in my classroom as my students engage in the challenging task of learning Arabic as a foreign language.

At our inner-city high school serving a low-income student population, we only offer the study of two complex foreign languages-Chinese and Arabic.

It is amazing to witness how many of my students have taken on the challenging task of learning Arabic and are always looking for resources to further their knowledge of the language, improve communication and use the language in worthwhile, engaging, and authentic ways.

My Project

In my Arabic class, my students use dry erase markers to practice the new vocabularies on their personal boards . My students also draw in groups the stories that they create in the class on the chart papers.

These Arabic supplies are needed in order to help support the efforts to learn Arabic in my classroom.

If you walk into my room during Arabic class, students are working collaboratively with their personal boards and markers-using these to communicate their thinking effectively. If you walk around my classroom, you'll notice that the walls are lined with posters displaying students' stories that they draw and color. Helping support this project will ensure that our language needs are taken care of for years to come.
