Everyone should know how electricity works and what to avoid. The students want to do experiments with the capacitors instead of just learning from the book. It is very rewarding to watch the students beam when the LCD lights up.
My students are high school students who attend a public school.
The school has a high graduation rate. The technology department, despite being a crucial part of STEM, is severely underfunded. I have had the same $5000, every year, even though I gained 4 more teachers.
My Project
With this equipment the unit on electricity and circuits will be hands on and the students will build circuits with capacitors and resistors, learning how electricity is regulated. The students enjoy working with their hands and have a really good time making the circuits.
This project gives students a look into something reading in a book can not show.
I have requested 40 solder-less boards and two kits with resistors, capacitors and other electricity related parts. The students actually build circuits and discover how circuits work. During this unit we also discuss blue collar jobs for students who are just not cut out for college. Students learn about the electricity in their homes, and how it works, not just that the lights come on when you hit the switch!
