My Students

After spending 12 years in a technology-driven sixth-grade classroom, I am now the new STEM teacher at our school. My school is one of the larger schools in our rural area, but over 50% of our student population falls in the low-income category. Outside the classroom, students don't have the resources to explore and discover the world around them. Four class periods of my day are spent co-teaching science using zSpace which allows students to explore concepts in a 3D virtual world. The rest of my day is spent teaching all aspects of technology, which is where I'd like to incorporate podcasting.

The best part of teaching with technology is the ability to reach students at so many different levels and give them the tools to discover what it takes to be their best version of themselves.

Students who are encouraged to play and discover, without the parameters of being right or wrong, leave my classroom excited to come back and motivated to try (and fail!) again and again.

My Project

Students spend time with local experts learning about renewable resources and energy. When students come to me, they have learned a great deal about the topic. I am able to utilize the lessons with zSpace to have students take a more in-depth look, dissecting solar panels virtually and comparing them to leaves on the trees.

Having the ability to build a solar-powered robot will tie all of these lessons together.

They will be able to take their experiences with our local expert, what they have learned in my classroom, and see it come together with their design.
