My Project

I teach elementary gifted students. This group is highly motivated and eager to learn. All students learn best through hands on experiences, and these students are no exceptions. The items on this list will help my students gain a deeper understanding of how solar power is used in different ways.

In hopes of inspiring the next generation of climate scientists, my fifth grade class will engage in a unit on sustainability, focusing on solar power.

I hope to conduct three projects with the class to learn how the sun's energy can be harnessed. First, students will learn how the sun's energy drives weather patterns by making terrariums. Next, we will build solar ovens to demonstrate the greenhouse effect. Finally, students will assemble solar powered cars.

I hope that this unit will be influential in the lives of my students as they learn about alternative forms of energy.
