Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Solar power is like magic to many students. If you think something is magic, you aren't trying to solve problems or improve it. In the future we will rely on alternative energy much more than we do today. It is our students who will work in this field and solve the problems of solar energy.

Every child is unique, and my students are not exceptions.

Some students enter my class fully prepared for the rigor of school, while other students come in needing help to catch up. All my students benefit from repeated and frequent exposure to engaging material. Our mid sized elementary school is located in an urban district of Southern California. We are a Title I school, which means that the majority of the students receive free or reduced lunches. Most students live very close to the school.

My Project

Using the materials I will first take the solar cells and connected them to USB cords. This necessary set up work allows students to connect the solar cells to the Little Bits parts to provide power. Little Bits are tiny electronic components that connect to each other using magnets. Whole circuits can be made, taken apart, redesigned, and rearranged without the need for soldering. It is a very easy and engaging way to begin learning about electronics. Working in groups, students will design machines that functions on solar power. Students will have to think about placement of panels and the overall electric need of their machines design. With self discovery students, learn more and retain much more. In addition to learning about how electronic parts connect, student's will get hands on experience working with alternative energy. At the end of our unit on conservation, we will have a celebration where students can showcase their best creations.

We all remember the hands on projects that we did as kids.

It is those projects that have stayed with us, but all the worksheets we filled out are forgotten. In this project, students get hands on discovery of conservation, electronics, and environmental science. Thank you for being a part of this life long educational memory for my students.
