Hands on learning creates the memories of tomorrow. Our third grade team feels it is imperative that students apply the knowledge they gain from text books. Seeing real life uses helps students understand and remember new information. All of our students will participate in a hands on solar day fiesta.

Our diverse third grade population will have an opportunity to see solar energy in action. With the help of donarschoose.org we will be able to purchase supplies that will allow 160 students to work in teams and discuss, explore and implement various solar powered experiments.

Our third grade students will spend a trimester studying the solar system. On conclusion of the unit, the students will have an opportunity to break into teams and rotate through a series of experiments and team building sessions. Each team will have an opportunity to create a solar oven, build a solar house, race solar cars and create solar powered inventions. We need you to help us with two solar day stations. We would like to purchase solar sports racer kits. These kits would allow the kids to build solar powered cars in teams and then race them. They would see the power that the sun can create. We would also like to purchase mobilo solar building sets. This would allow the kids to create solar powered structures and vehicles. By working in teams, students would explore what solar power can do!

It is through donors such as yourselves that we can provide these hands on, memory creating moments. Schools today have money to fund the texts. Yet, is this what kids remember? We must apply our knowledge to truly understand a concept. Please help our kids to explore solar power in a concrete and meaningful way. Please help us fund our solar day project.
