it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My STEM students just took a survey to share their engineering interests and the results are clear; they would like to design and test solar powered cardboard cars. STEM education is all about firsthand experiences and I cannot think of a better opportunity than designing and trouble-shooting solar cars. These kits provide the wheels and axels, motors, solar panels, and design examples.
4th and 5th grade engineering teams will make car frames out of recycled cardboard, then add wheels and axels, and finally mount their solar panels to get the maximum amount of direct sunlight.
These solar car kits will provide enough materials for a whole grade level to work on the project at the same time. Students will solve problems ranging from weight constraints to aligning the wheel, axel, and motor, to attaching their solar panels. The kits will provide an opportunity for students to problem-solve, persevere, and collaborate in teams.
