My Students

My students attend an early childhood center for preschool through 2nd grade in the city of St. Louis. Every day I come to school I am always impressed with the resiliency of these children. They are survivors. At the same time, they are still children. They love to play singing and clapping games, use puppets, scarves, play instruments and creating choreographed dances.

It's wonderful to see their faces light up with joy when they are having fun in music.

The students are passionate about music and life. They enjoy performing in the classroom and for various audiences in the school. A few times they would spontaneously start singing songs for our spring concert in the cafeteria. A table of girls was excited to sing the solo and a healthy competition ensued.

When I came into my first music room, there were no instruments except for some broken tambourines and a box of triangles. Luckily, I was able to borrow various instruments from another school in the district. I am hoping to get sponsored to purchase more instruments and resources for my students.

My Project

Having these materials in the music room will make many worlds of difference and inspire students to use their imagination and be creative. Lighting is an essential component in the classroom environment that often gets overlooked. These Octo Light Florescent light covers will help set the mood and raise positive vibrations in the music room.

Imagine walking into the music room and being overwhelmed with a sense of calm, wonder and joy.

In the past, I have tried lamps. That can make the room too dim. I don't want students to drift off while learning about lullabies. The current lights are too bright. They hurt my eyes and can be overstimulating for students, especially those with special needs. Help provide my students with the "just right" lighting conditions for learning and being creative in the music room.
