This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The location of my school is in Southern California near downtown Los Angeles. My group of students come from low-income families. The students are very energetic and eager to learn. Students have been introduced to a few non-traditional sport units but are eager to learn more.

The demographics of students in my grade level are as follow.

We have about 25 African American students in 5th and 6th grade. We have about 202 Hispanic or Latino students in 5th and 6th grade. We have 2 Filipino students and 2 white students in 5th and 6th grade. 94% of students get free/reduced lunch. 31% of students are English Language Learners.

My Project

The materials provided will enhance the students cognitive and physical ability to play the sport of softball. Students will get the opportunity to learn an American sport. Students will be introduced to skills such as catching, throwing, rules and regulations, running bases, outfield, infield, defense, and offense. This will enhance their knowledge of the sport.

In addition, students will also have the opportunity to be introduced to a sport they might like and play after they leave Crown Prep Academy.

This will give students the ability to socialize and be active. Students can also use this sport to learn teamwork.
