Supplies for baseball will improve my students' ability to come together for a common goal, learn how to organize themselves to 'play' - a skill that they are not often afforded, learn baseball skills (pitching, hitting, catching, & running) that improve their fitness level, practice good sportsmanship, develop teamwork skills, build confidence while having fun.
Playing baseball on a weekly basis, not only improves fitness levels, but allows students, who are athletically inclined or have an inherent need to move, to shine on the sports field; this often helps to "level the playing field" within the classroom, build classroom community, and a respect for students that demonstrate strengths other than academic.
We have been using equipment that is over 15 years old. Providing the students with brand new equipment will increase their interest in the sport. Faulty and old equipment can be a safety hazard and a turn off to students wanting to participate. New equipment will ensure a safe and fun fitness option for multiple physical education classes throughout the school year.
