Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class consists of thirty-two 5th grade students who are so excited to be back at school in person. They all come from a low-income community and their school receives free school lunch. They all have different backgrounds, learning styles, and interests.
My students are awesome.
They are working hard and I want them to have the best education possible and to have fun learning. Many students are below grade level due to many factors. As a hardworking teacher who wants nothing but the best for my students, I am reaching out for your support.
My Project
I am asking for donations to help me begin a program called "Soft Start" with my students. The last couple of years have been very tough on children due to the pandemic. They have felt isolated and have missed out on a lot of time they could have been spending playing with other children and socializing. I would really like to integrate soft starts in the morning when they come in each day. This will help with social interaction and be a nice way to set the tone for the school day.
I hope that these materials will help foster a caring and friendly classroom community for all of my students.
Students will come into the classroom, unpack, and pick an activity to work on that morning. Many of the materials I am requesting offer academic challenges and allow children to work as a team to solve problems. Some of the materials are geared towards independent work since, as we know, sometimes we all need to have some time alone, and that is okay too! Using these materials each morning to start the day is a great way for children to work together and make new friends. Soft starts to the school day will provide a nice bridge between the academic demands of the day and the student's social and emotional needs, which now more than ever need to be addressed.
