This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A soft start or inicio suave is a way for students to start the school day with a positive activity. I am asking for your support in providing board games/activities such as Scrabble, Connect Four, Monopoly, Loteria (Mexican Bingo), Checkers, and Chess.

Starting the day on a positive note helps students lower their Affective (anxiety) filter brought upon by the academic, emotional, and social expectations of the school day.

Students are empowered by choosing an activity and can either work together with peers or work alone.

A soft start not only increases student engagement but also builds community and contributes to a positive attitude toward school and themselves.

I have rolled out a soft start, and students have responded very positively. I need your help in providing more games/activities to continue supporting my students' mental wellness. My students are in need of new activities since some appear bored with the usual activities I have in the classroom.
