My Project
My name is Trista Taylor. I am currently teaching 5th - 8th grade (all subjects). I have been teaching in a small charter school for about 8 years now. As I look at our traditional classroom structures and systems of teaching, my dream is to create a classroom that is completely different. I want a Socratic classroom, where every student has a voice and ideas to contribute to the learning process. I would like my classroom to be "mobile," meaning, we can move things around, we can change, adapt, and fit whatever project or dynamic plan the students have come up with. I would like to flow between full group meetings and projects with ease. My plan is to inspire the children to be self-driven, self-motivated, and self-disciplined while borrowing ideas and sharing ideas with other self-aware and inspired individuals around them. In order to get this process of teaching on the move, I will need to rethink my classroom space. Currently, we have traditional desks and chairs. This puts a cramp on the goals of my classroom. We need more movement and flow. Buying these desk/chair combinations will help me create the space my class needs to change the traditional brick-and-mortar teacher lecture classroom. Please help us! It would be greatly appreciated!
