My students are two and three years old. This is the first time most of them are in a school ever! They love to explore and play and pretend. They love to sing and have a dance party. They are always in the kitchen making someone something to eat. They can be found in the block center building a road for their cars and trucks. They are painting their hearts out using brushes or fingers. They are loving every minute of their school day. They are learning and having fun and building friendships all day long.
My students are risk takers and mess makers.
They are confident doers of exciting things. They are not built for desk sitting, their brains crave action. They need play to move and explore!
My Project
When schools open their doors in September, we are walking into a world that is new to everyone, not just my students. We are learning how to make school fun for our two and three-year-olds while keeping them socially distant from the few classmates that will be in school with them.
I am trying to create a personal bin for each student so that they have their own supplies for learning.
These bins will include Play-Doh, crayons, paint, and a few different paint brushes. Each child will have their own bin with a label with their name and picture on it, which will create ownership.
Why these items you ask? Well, let me tell you!
I want to include Play-Doh in their bin. Besides hours of countless fun, it develops fine motor skills, encourages creativity, enhances hand-eye coordination, improves social skills, supports literacy and numeracy, and promotes playtime.
I want to also include crayons in their bins. Coloring helps children develop good finger grip. It provides an opportunity to practice holding a pencil the correct way and aids in developing those fine motor muscles in their hands, fingers, and wrist. It also helps develops and improves their length of concentration.
Finally, I want to include paint and brushes. Painting allows children an educational opportunity that is also fun and exciting and aids children to acquire hand-eye coordination, an important skill at their age.
Please help my students grow creatively as learners while maintaining social distance from their classmates.
